Lufthansa collective bargaining: Successful ballot sends send signal for a new momentum

Result shows strong support of VC members for the goals of the Collective Bargaining Commission

In the strike ballot that ended today, Lufthansa pilots voted clearly in favor of continuing along the current collective bargaining path. With a turnout of 93.2% (DLH) and 95.7% (Lufthansa Cargo), 97.6% (DLH) and 99.3% (Lufthansa Cargo) voted in favor of supporting the collective bargaining commission. The required quorum was thus clearly exceeded.

The result of the ballot shows the strong support of the members for the goals of the Group's collective bargaining commission. The subject of the current, but so far unfortunately unsuccessful negotiations is the appropriate and balanced remuneration in the cockpit. The pilots' demands focus on compensation for the loss of real wages. Another central point of the demands to the employer is the equalisation of the remuneration system in the staff body while at the same time increasing the attractiveness of the lower wage levels.

Dr. Marcel Gröls, Chair of Collective Bargaining Policy of the VC: "We now need a modern and fair internationally competitive remuneration structure in all occupational groups."

This positive ballot does not yet necessarily lead to strike action. But it is an unmistakable signal to Lufthansa to take the needs of cockpit staff seriously.

"In the interest of our passengers, too, Lufthansa must now show a serious willingness to find solutions in order to jointly create creative solution spaces in the interest of the company and its employees," concluded Dr. Gröls.
