Ryanair Ballot completed – Pilots in favor for industrial action

Invitation to press briefing Wednesday, 8. August 2018

Today, the ballot among Ryanair pilots regarding collective labor agreements remuneration (VTV) and terms and conditions (MTV) ended. An overwhelming majority of 96 % for the MTV and 96 % for the VTV voted in favor for industrial action.

Any industrial action will be announced at least 24 hours ahead of time to give the travelling public time to make other arrangements.

“To avoid industrial action, we are offering Ryanair a final deadline to submit a workable proposal by August 6, 2018. Unfortunately, so far Ryanair has not made any proposal with which we could work. Last Friday, another round of exploratory talks yielded no progress either” said Ingolf Schumacher, Chairman Industrial Relations at Vereinigung Cockpit (VC). “Since the start of our negotiations in January, Ryanair has been playing for time and even if Ryanair is not taking this ballot seriously, industrial action like in other European countries, seems unavoidable in Germany as well. We implore upon Ryanair to reverse its present way of behaving like a wrong-way driver towards pilot and cabin crew unions throughout Europe” Schumacher continued.

For several years, Vereinigung Cockpit has demanded the conclusion of collective labor agreements for Ryanair crewmembers. Since the beginning of negotiations between Ryanair and VC in January 2018, no significant progress could be made. Last week, the company threatened to transfer of dismiss employees in Ireland and Germany. VC is demanding working conditions similar to those found at comparable airlines such as TUIfly.
