In the effort to improve safety in air transport, the VC formulates policies. A policy represents the agreed position of the VC on an individual topic and serves as orientation for the association's work. As long as actual facts do not correspond to the circumstances defined in the policy, the achievement of these goals is actively pursued through the work of the VC. It should be noted, however, that a policy is not to be equated with an enforceable legal norm.

The VC has formulated policies for a variety of topics within aviation and the profession of pilots. These can be categorised into the following areas:
