Diversity & Social (DAS)

Profile of the AG DAS

The Diversity and Social (DAS) working group is committed to fostering an atmosphere of acceptance and mutual trust in the cockpit and seeks to reflect the diversity of society in our working environment. We address topics such as discrimination-free practices, gender equality, work-life balance, mental health, and more. Our efforts are aimed at creating a more diverse and inclusive aviation industry.

Tasks and Responsibilities

The AG regularly meets at the VC offices in Frankfurt to bring together the independent work of its members and exchange ideas. Our members also participate in national and international events, such as conferences and trade shows. Additionally, we are active in working groups at a European and global level through our umbrella organizations, ECA (European Cockpit Association) and IFALPA (International Federation of Airline Pilots Associations), as well as partner associations such as ULA and dbb.

Our work can be broadly divided into three main areas:

1.    Mental Health: We focus on promoting and safeguarding the mental health of all individuals working in the cockpit. Our goal is to develop and promote mechanisms and resources that reduce psychological stress in the professional environment and strengthen mental well-being. We maintain regular communication with the German Peer Support Programs ("Round Table Mental Health”).

2.    Diversity: We advocate for a diverse, inclusive, and socially just aviation industry. There are still relatively few women in the cockpit, so we aim to increase the visibility of female pilots and inspire (young) women and girls to pursue this career. We want to contribute to creating a work environment that welcomes and values people of different ages, life experiences, ethnicities, cultures, nationalities and gender identities and sexual orientations. Promoting awareness of respectful and inclusive behavior is a crucial aspect of this goal.

3.    Social Aspects: In this area, we address issues related to the compatibility of family and career, caregiving and career, pregnancy and career as well as transitioning into retirement, social consequences in case of loss of license and human trafficking.
